Hot chocolate

Made in a pot with real chocolate, in ten minutes.

The stove-top kind, made from cocoa powder, milk and a little dark chocolate.

Easy. Hands on for about 10 minutes. About 10 minutes start to finish. Makes 2 mugs.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • a pinch salt
  • 1 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Steps

  1. Put the cocoa, sugar and salt in a small pot. Add ¼ cup (60 ml) of the milk and whisk to a smooth paste.
  2. Set the pot over medium-low heat. Whisk in the rest of the milk.
  3. Heat, stirring now and then, until it is steaming. Do not let it boil.
  4. Take the pot off the heat. Stir in the chocolate and the vanilla until the chocolate melts.
  5. Pour into two mugs. Add marshmallows if you have them.

A skin on top means it got too hot. Whisk it back in, or lift it off with a spoon.
